Gogglebox fans threaten to switch off over show airing political segments

Gogglebox fans have threatened to stop watching the show after some viewers have become "sick" of the show discussing the latest news and politics.

The Channel 4 show is known for its lighthearted and funny takes on that week’s TV, as the Goggleboxers react to everything from the latest films, TV series and soaps.

However, the show has increasingly included news stories and politics as part of the programme – which some viewers aren’t happy with.

On Friday’s episode, the gang sat down to watch reporter Andrew Marr grill Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, where the likes of Pete Sandiford and the Siddiqui family shared their thoughts.

However, some viewers took to social media to complain about the show’s political discussions, saying it doesn’t fit in with the show’s Friday evening entertainment slot.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “Please, I really don't care about what Boris Johnson has to say or Covid news when I'm trying to relax on a Friday/Saturday watching what should be a light hearted program. Sort it out!”

“Gogglebox with my blood pressure, struggling to watch #BorisJohnson interview on #Marr again,” added another.

A third agreed and said: "I wish they wouldn’t put politics on here. This is supposed to be fun.”

“Used to occasionally watch Gogglebox for a laugh. No more. Not interested in what any of them think about Universal Credit or any politics,” wrote another.
