Man Utd 'dream' of Erling Haaland transfer and could offer Dortmund Anthony Martial as part of swap deal

MANCHESTER UNITED could try to offload Anthony Martial as part of a swap deal to bring Erling Haaland to the club.

The Red Devils have been linked with the Borussia Dortmund striker for some time, but interest appeared to die down when they opted to secure the Norwegian's team-mate Jadon Sancho instead.

And with the £73million spent on Sancho, Man Utd would now not be able to afford a cash deal for Haaland this summer.

But according to Mundo Deportivo, the Premier League giants are trying to think of creative ways of bringing the Dortmund man to Old Trafford.

And one of those is to offer forward Martial as part of the deal in order to reduce the transfer fee required to buy Haaland.

However, Dortmund have already made it clear to Chelsea that they would not accept any players as part of the deal, so that may well be a stumbling block for United.

Haaland, who is expected to cost around £150m, currently has a contract with the Bundesliga side until 2024.

But next summer a release clause of £66m comes into play, meaning clubs pursuing him will be able to sign him for a cut price.

Meanwhile, Martial has been linked with a move away from Man Utd following a tough season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 25-year-old Frenchman has scored 78 times in 258 appearances since arriving in England six years ago.

But the 2020-21 campaign was a difficult one as he managed to net just seven goals in 36 matches.

Barcelona and Tottenham are among the teams who have been linked with acquiring his services.

But he does still have three years left on his contract and the option for a fourth, so the Red Devils will almost certainly ask for a substantial fee.
