Trying to chase up your medical records can be a pain, but the NHS has now launched a new way to access all of your GP records and NHS data online. This may become increasingly important if Brits need to show proof of vaccination in the future.
The NHS App online allows patients in England to access medical services on your desktop, laptop or computer, through your web browser.
You do not need to install anything to get started as you can access this site online – but, you can download the service as an app to your smartphone or tablet.
You can download the NHS app on Apple devices from the App Store or for Android devices from GooglePlay.
Proving that you have been vaccinated may be necessary if you wish to travel abroad in the future.
When you subscribe we will use the information you provide to send you these newsletters. Sometimes they’ll include recommendations for other related newsletters or services we offer. Our Privacy Notice explains more about how we use your data, and your rights. You can unsubscribe at any time.
There have even been suggestions that Covid passports may become mandatory to gain entry to venues such as festivals and pubs.
NHS Digital has added proof of vaccination to the app so you can prove you’ve had your jab, while you’re out and about.
The app also allows Brits to access a range of NHS services online or through their smartphone or tablet.
So, what services and records can I access through the NHS app?
You can use the app to:
- Share your COVID-19 status
- Order repeat prescriptions
- Book and manage appointments
- Get health information and advice
- View your health record securely
- View your NHS number
Who can use the app?
To use this service you must be registered with a GP surgery in England.
Once you have signed up you can view a summary of your medical records, make appointments and request repeat prescriptions.
You can also use the app to download a PDF copy of your Covid status or request for this to be emailed to you via the app.
To use the app to confirm your Covid status you will need to make sure that you download the correct app.
The NHS app which provides proof of vaccine status is different from the NHS COVID-19 app, you might have the NHS COVID-19 app already downloaded as it is used for contact tracing and signing into venues.
You must be aged 13 and over to use the NHS app – but as this age group is not currently eligible for the vaccine they will not need to show their vaccine status yet.
