Forget big feet! Men with large NOSES tend to have bigger penises, study reveals
- Researchers measured the size of the male reproductive organs of 126 corpses
- They found a link between nose size and a cadaver’s ‘stretched penile length’
- This metric involves pulling the penis up vertically and replicates erection size
- Men with biggest noses have a penis 1.2 inches (29%) longer than those with the smallest sniffers
In support of the ‘big nose, big hose’ theory, a scientific study has found that men with larger noses do indeed have longer penises.
Research found men with the biggest noses have a ‘stretched penile length’ of at least 5.3 inches (13.42cm).
However, those with less prominent sniffers have a sex organ which measures just 4.1inches (10.37cm) when fully erect.
‘The fact that nose size is related to stretched penile length indicates that penile length may not be determined by age, height or body weight but has already been determined before birth,’ the researchers say.

Men with biggest noses have a penis 1.2inches (29%) longer than those with the smallest sniffers. For people with noses which fall into the middle range, the average penis size is 4.5 inches. In Japan, the average penis size is 4.5 inches, according to previous research
Japanese researchers studied the corpses of 126 middle-aged men within three days of their death.
A host of measurements documented their height, weight, flaccid penile length, penile circumference, right and left testicular weights, and prostate weight.
A scientist was also tasked with laying each cadaver down and pulling the penis up vertically as far as it would go to get a measurement for stretched penile length.
This, researchers say, is an accurate way of replicating a penis’ length when erect.
Nose size was also documented by measuring the distance from between a person’s eyes to where the nostril starts near the tip of the olfactory organ.
An ex-convict feared he had fractured his penis during sex after he woke up with a massively swollen member.
But instead, the 41-year-old had just knocked the domino fragment that he shoved into his penis while in jail two years earlier.
The former drug addict carved a piece of domino into an arrow shape and inserted it between his skin and penile muscle to ‘enhance sexual stimulation’.
Doctors in New York, who treated him, assumed he had snapped his penis because of how swollen it was.
Yet the unidentified man suffered no pain during sex, nor did he hear the dreaded ‘pop’ sound – the hallmark sign of the grisly injury.
Medics felt a 1.5cm-long object buried in his penis, which prompted him to confess about what the lump actually was.
He revealed that during his time in prison he had used a ‘pencil’ to push the domino fragment into his penis. Doctors noted his penis was severely infected and bruised.
Statistical analysis revealed nose length was correlated to the size of a person’s engorged member.
They found men with noses smaller than 1.8 inches had a penis size of up to 4.1 inches.
However, for people with a nose that is 22 per cent bigger and measures 2.2 inches long, their penises were larger, measuring 5.3 inches long.
For people with noses which fall into the middle of this range, the average penis size was 4.5 inches. In Japan, the average penis size is 4.5 inches, according to previous research.
The new study also found, unsurprisingly, a strong link between a penis’s flaccid length and its erect length.
However, there was no connection between the size of a man’s nose and the length of his penis when soft.
The researchers put this down to variability in how efficient a penis is at swelling, with some people being ‘growers’ and others noted ‘showers’.
In the study, published in Basic and Clinical Andrology, scientists from the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine did not look at why nose and penis length is linked.
Instead, their observational study only found a connection between the dimensions of the body parts.
‘This study is the first to demonstrate the relationship between stretched penile length and nose size but is limited in Japanese male cadavers, and the reason why stretched penile length and nose size are related is still unclear,’ the researchers write.
‘Therefore, we consider it an interesting subject to pursue from now on.’
However, previous studies have found that an unborn baby’s level of exposure to androgens while in their mother’s womb can influence penile length.
They also say that androgens — a group of hormones which includes testosterone — has been previously linked to the 2D:4D ratio.
This states that androgen exposure can alter the length of a person’s index and ring fingers and therefore the size ration of the two digits.
Previous studies have indicated the 2D:4D ratio and the speculated androgen link can can be used to predict food choices and even a person’s sexuality.
