Monty Don has taken to social media to share a picture of a shipping container being delivered to his property in Herefordshire. The arrival of not one, but three containers at Longmeadow means that work on the new series of Gardeners’ World can get underway very soon.

During the last series, Monty filmed the gardening show using remote control cameras amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In order to follow social distancing guidelines, the containers will be used by crew to operate the equipment, while minimising the risk of contracting COVID-19.

Alongside a picture of the container being moved into place at the end of his garden, Monty told his 773,000 followers that filming would start next week.

“The containers for covid-protected crew to remotely operate the cameras and sound have arrived!

“Filming for this year’s Gardeners World begins on Monday morning,” he added.

Over on Twitter, the presenter shared a bit more information.

“One of the 3 shipping containers being hoisted into place.

“The film crew operate the remote cameras and microphones from these – socially distanced not just from me but each other.

“Filming starts on Monday with the first programme broadcast on Friday 18th.”

Quickly realising he had made an error, Monty returned to the micro-blogging site to correct his mistake.

“Friday March 19th. NINETEENTH,” he clarified.

“I would tell you the time but my track record in these matters means I am better leaving that to others,” the gardener amusingly added.

Many took to the comments section of his post to share their thoughts.

“Great to hear you’re back soon Monty and thank you to you and the container crew for all your efforts in making this possible,” one follower wrote.

“It’s amazing how you are all coming together (or not so to speak) to do this for us. Thank you to everyone, cast and crew & especially the animals!” another added.

A third person remarked: “So looking forward to this, it always feels like Spring is around the corner when GW starts but what a palaver!”

However, another user was not convinced that the containers were necessary.

“What a waste of time, cameramen outside in the fresh air are not at risk from catching covid, but more at risk shut away in the container,” the Twitter user wrote.

“The risk is not from filming itself but all the social interactions associated with it – hotels, washrooms, food, handling and exchanging kit etc,” Monty returned to the site to explain.

“Is it true your magnificent garden is flooded?” a concerned user asked the TV star.

“Happens all the time – at least 3 times every year for past 30 years. Not a problem,” Monty reassured the viewer.

Gardeners’ World returns to BBC Two on Friday March 19.
