The Weeknd may be headlining the Super Bowl halftime show tonight, but the musical performances have begun even before kickoff. H.E.R. started off the festivities with a moving performance of “America the Beautiful,” decked out in embellished denim and with an electric guitar in hand.
The Grammy winner belted out a soulful rendition of the patriotic tune and impressively shredded on her instrument during her set at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
After H.E.R., R&B star Jazmine Sullivan and country singer Eric Church joined forces for a duet of the national anthem. Poet Amanda Gorman, who just spoke at Joe Biden’s inauguration last month, recited a poem honoring pandemic heroes. The President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden also appeared in a video message sharing a message for the players ahead of the game, and the frontline workers watching along.
H.E.R., whose real name is Gabi Wilson, looked ready for Super Bowl weekend when she shared an Instagram before jetting off to Tampa.

Before taking to the field, Wilson recently appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform “Fight for You,” her new song for the upcoming film, Judas and the Black Messiah.

At the time, she was just in the studio “going through all the song titles and narrowing everything down and figuring out what I want it to be.” We can’t wait.
