SPARK AND LIGHT – RILEY KEOUGH
Elvis Presley never met his grandchildren, as he died before they were born. However, his daughter Lisa Marie followed in his footsteps and released some music over the years. But why didn’t his granddaughter, Riley Keough, join the family music business as well?
Famously, Elvis Presley did act in various films, also performing on the soundtrack albums for many of the movies.
While the films were not exactly musicals, Elvis would often have a singing moment where he would grab a guitar and start a song, which would become the main theme for the movie.
However, while Elvis was an actor, he was not considered primarily to be an actor, and instead was mainly a singer and performer, with his music living on longer than his movie roles.
His daughter, Lisa Marie, has followed in her father’s footsteps, becoming a singer and musician.

Riley Keough, Elvis’ granddaughter, has not followed in her grandfather’s musical footsteps, and has instead chased down films more specifically.
According to an interview with The New York Times magazine, her family were very supportive of her working choices.
She said: “They were very open to the idea of me doing whatever I wanted to do.
“I was one of those kids who thought I could be the president of England when I grew up if I wanted to.
“Then I started acting and realised life is hard and people are mean. And there’s no president of England and I’m not British…
“Looking back on it, I’m like, ‘Wow, my upbringing was very intense’.
“I always wanted to be in film. I knew that. I grew up in a family of musicians, so it was also something that I wasn’t around a lot.
“I wanted to make movies and that’s all I wanted to do when I was a kid.
“Film was everything, and I was very fascinated with people and human behaviour.”
While she was not following in her grandfather’s footsteps, she was following the career path of her grandmother, Priscilla Presley, who had some notable acting roles after her marriage to Elvis ended.
Other than being the wife of Elvis, Priscilla became best known for two of her endeavours: appearing on the soap Dallas and for maintaining Graceland so it could be opened to the public.
In the 1980s, Priscilla was offered a role in Charlie’s Angels, which she declined.
Though she appeared on TV after this, her big break came when she landed the role of Jenna Wade in the soap opera Dallas.
Priscilla was the third actress to play the role of Jenna, but played it for the longest after opting to leave the show after five years, in 1988.
This year was not the end of her acting, as she teamed up with Leslie Nielsen to star as Jane Spencer in The Naked Gun, or to give its full title, The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!
She appeared in the following two sequels, The Naked Gun 2 1⁄2: The Smell of Fear and Naked Gun 33 1⁄3: The Final Insult, which were released in 1991 and 1994 respectively.
After this Priscilla appeared in small roles in TV series, before she made her pantomime debut in 2012 in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the New Wimbledon Theatre.
She and Lisa Marie have also dedicated themselves to maintaining Graceland, which is now open to the public as a tourist attraction.
