The restaurateur, 54, is currently filming his Uncharted cooking series for National Geographic in Central America, while his wife Tana, 46, and their five children remain in the UK.

Award-winning chef Gordon flew out last week after receiving a negative Covid test to shoot the series which will air later this year, having spent Christmas at home.

Alongside the cute photo of the upset 21-month-old, the media personality wrote: ‘The face you make when you’re on Lockdown No3.’

The TV star was allowed to travel as television production is exempt from the latest government lockdown rules, but the frequent social media user has refrained from publicising the trip.

His presence in Costa Rica was revealed by a restaurant he visited called Soda Mirna in Puerto Viejo on Monday.

They posted a picture of the Hell’s Kitchen star on their Instagram page, revealing he was greeted with a dish containing rice and beans, plus a chicken and tripe soup.

Career commitments: The restaurateur is filming his Uncharted cooking series for National Geographic in Central America (pictured on the show last year)

Locked down: His wife Tana, 46, and their five children Megan, 23, twins Holly and Jack, 21, Tilly 19, and Oscar, 21 months, remain in the UK (pictured together)

Gordon’s trip to Costa Rica has been conducted under strict Covid guidelines, with a production company statement stating: ‘Covid-19 is taken very seriously with our entire crew prior, during and after filming – on and off set.

‘We currently partner with a highly experienced team that specialises in infectious disease control who monitor the working practices to ensure the crew and local contributors remain safe at all times.

‘Prior to departure all participants are required to receive a negative Covid-19 test result that must be provided no more than 72 hours before arrival.

‘During all travel, airport transit, flight duration and when in the cars to and from locations, PPE should be worn.

Criticism? His decision to keep the project low-key could be triggered by the backlash he received for spending the first UK lockdown isolating in his £4million holiday home in Cornwall

‘The crew and contributors maintain social distancing when possible and proper handwashing/sanitizing is practiced at all times.

‘Daily check in with the Covid compliance officer is mandatory twice daily for ALL individuals. This consists of a temperature reading by laser thermometer and blood oxygen levels.’

His decision to keep the project low-key could be triggered by the backlash he received for spending the first UK lockdown isolating in his £4million holiday home in Cornwall, rather than staying in London as advised.

Local residents feared the writer, who was joined by wife Tana and three of their five kids Jack, 21, Tilly, 19, and toddler Oscar, could risk spreading the virus and some members of a Facebook group called You Shouldn’t Be Here threatened to expose Gordon’s address if he didn’t leave.

Insiders indicated at the time that he had been seen in Rock, Fowey, Port Isaac and Newquay – some distance from his £4million home in Trebetherick.

A source at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, whose officers and volunteers carry out regular patrols of the beaches and coastal paths, said at the time: ‘We have reports of him being seen in dozens of different places since lockdown started.

‘He does not seem to be obeying the rules regarding social distancing, exercise and staying at home.

‘We are aware of him having travelled to Port Isaac, which is eight miles away from his home, to Newquay, which is 23 miles away, and even at his third Cornish home in Fowey, which is 25 miles away and a 45-minute drive on a good day.

‘One of our staff spoke to him about the frequency with which he was being seen out and about, and the significant distances. After a period of reflection, he seemed to calm himself and took on board what was being conveyed in a most polite manner.’

However, the presenter had retreated to their second home at the start of the lockdown, which was not against the government guidelines at the time.

The host, who also shares daughters Megan, 23, and Holly, 21, with the author, was later spotted a number of times on long excursions – at a time when outings were limited to an hour a day.

Father-of-five Gordon kept fit and set out on extensive cycles while staying in the area but caused rage after celebrating one lengthy ‘26.2 miles’ outing.

In May, a friend of the family told MailOnline: ‘The family see Cornwall as their family home when the kids are back from uni and Gordon back from filming around the world it’s where they spend all their family time together.

‘They’ve been spending time there for 10 years and Jack actually lives in the house there full time too. Most of their neighbours are so welcoming and they love being part of the community.

‘They’ve been following the government advice along with the rest of the country since they arrived on March 20th and the campaign against them is hurtful and unnecessary at a time when we should all be coming together and supporting each other.’
