Tom Hanks’ private chef reveals the Australian dishes the Hollywood star fell in love with during his stay on the Gold Coast
Tom Hanks returned to Australia in September to continue filming scenes of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic, after his COVID diagnosis shut down filming in March.
During his stay on Queensland’s Gold Coast, the Hollywood star hired Brisbane-based Aaron Teece to be his personal chef.
The internationally renowned cook, who owns Studio Neon Catering, has revealed the Aussie dishes that the 64-year-old Castaway star fell in love with during his stay.

‘He loves a good home made meat pie, loves Vegemite and now Oomite too,’ Aaron told the Courier Mail on Saturday.
Oomite is an all-natural savoury spread, that has been billed as an all natural, preservative-free version of Vegemite.
Aaron explained his main job was simply cooking the Oscar winner some hearty dinners.

‘I was working as his private chef so usually just home-cooked meals after a long day at work,’ he said.
Aaron also explained that the actor and his daughter Elizabeth, who accompanied him Down Under, mainly stayed at their apartment during their time in Australia.
He said: ‘It was all long hours at the studio and unfortunately due to being harassed by the public every time they left the apartment they chose not to go out if it wasn’t essential’.

The renowned chef, who has cooked for the likes of, Lady Margaret Thatcher, the Queen, Kate Moss and Keira Knightley, shared a selfie with the Academy Award winner, his daughter Elizabeth and other members of his team earlier this week.
He called the Academy Award winner and his family ‘legendary’ in the caption of his post.
Aaron said: ‘You are all by far the most humble, friendly, easy going clients I have ever had the pleasure of working with.’

Tom travelled to Australia in March with his wife Rita Wilson to film Baz Luhrmann’s film, in which he plays Elvis Presley’s manager Colonel Tom Parker.
The couple tested positive for Covid-19 and were hospitalised for several days in Queensland.
They continued their recovery in quarantine, before flying home to Los Angeles.
