President Trump says he spoke with his lawyer Rudy Giuliani on Monday morning and that the former New York City mayor is doing well after being hospitalized with COVID-19.
Giuliani, 76, has been leading Trump’s effort to challenge narrow swing-state losses to President-elect Joe Biden by alleging widespread fraud.
“Rudy is doing well. I just spoke to him. He’s doing very well — no temperature,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office during a Medal of Freedom ceremony for wrestler Dan Gable.
“He actually called me early this morning, he was the first call I got,” Trump said.
“He’s doing very well. That’s another champion: greatest mayor in the history of New York and what he’s doing now is more important. And he will admit that. He was the greatest mayor, did a fantastic job, especially when you see what’s going on nowadays.”
Giuliani reportedly entered Georgetown University Hospital on Sunday for treatment. He’s the latest Trump associate to test positive for the respiratory virus, which since March infected nearly 15 million Americans and killed more than 282,000.
The former mayor tweeted Sunday night: “Thank you to all my friends and followers for all the prayers and kind wishes. I’m getting great care and feeling good. Recovering quickly and keeping up with everything.”
Giuliani previously lucked out when the virus infected other prominent members of Trump’s late-September presidential debate prep team but not him.
Trump tested positive for the virus in October, as did former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former White House aide Kellyanne Conway and Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien, who attended debate prep sessions with Giuliani.
“I feel very bad for them … I almost feel a little guilty,” Giuliani said at the time.
