Jason Priestley addresses Jessica Alba’s claims she wasn’t allowed to look at the Beverly Hills 90210 cast members: ‘We never thought we were MC Hammer’

During Jessica Alba’s appearance on Hot Ones, the actress revealed she wasn’t allowed to look at the stars of Beverly Hills 90210 when she was guest-starring on the show, with another star, Jason Priestley, addressing her claims.

Alba portrayed pregnant teenager Leanne in two episodes towards the end of Season 8 in 1998, two years before her breakthrough role as Max Guevera on James Cameron’s Dark Angel.

Priestley, 51, spoke with The Roz and Mocha Show on KISS 92.5, where he made it clear that it was never a rule that guest stars should never look at the main stars.

No rules: Priestley, 51, spoke with The Roz and Mocha Show on KISS 92.5, where he made it clear that it was never a rule that guest stars should never look at the main stars

‘”Don’t look at the stars of the show” was never an edict that came down on our show. I don’t know who told Jessica Alba not to look at us,’ Priestley said, adding, ‘We never thought we were M.C. Hammer.’

The actor was asked it someone may have told Alba not to look at the cast because they were so immensely popular, though he made it clear that never came from the cast themselves.

‘There is a very slight possibility that someone… I mean, apparently somebody did because they thought that maybe that was the thing to do,’ Priestley added.

‘I don’t know what Jessica Alba’s experience was coming on our show as a guest star,’ the actor stated. ‘I know that certainly…I never would have made her feel that way.’

Priestley added he always, ‘went out of my way to make sure our guests always felt incredibly welcomed.

‘I  would always go and talk to them and make sure they knew this was a place where we wanted them to succeed,’ he said.

Experience: ‘I don’t know what Jessica Alba’s experience was coming on our show as a guest star,’ the actor stated. ‘I know that certainly…I never would have made her feel that way’

As far as Alba was concerned, though, he didn’t actually interact with her on the set, adding, ‘she was in a storyline that I had nothing to do with.’

‘I’m sorry that that happened to her,’ Priestley said. ‘It seems really incongruous with everything else that happened on our show, so I don’t know what her experience was.’

Ian Ziering also opened up about the incident during an appearance on Access on Tuesday, stating, ‘I can’t for the life of me ever imagine a situation where any of the actors would say that.’

Jennie and Tori: Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling also commented on Alba’s remarks during their new joint podcast, 9021OMG, though Garth hinted she might have said that

He added that he’s not ‘doubting her experience’ adding it might have been a crew member who instructed her to do that.

‘That doesn’t even make sense. Acting is acting and reacting, you have to look at who you’re talking to. None of my castmates ever requested anything like that.

‘How that was told to Jessica, it saddens me because it lessened the experience for her — certainly didn’t slow her down in life — but it’s hard to hear that there was any negativity on the set,’ he added.

“If I had known about that I would have shut that down immediately,” he said.

Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling also commented on Alba’s remarks during their new joint podcast, 9021OMG, though Garth hinted she might have said that.

‘If anybody was, you know, didn’t want to have their eyes looked into, it would have been me,’ the actress said, considering she shared most of the scenes with Alba. ‘But, I don’t remember because I have the world’s worst memory.’

Spelling had wondered if the producers or directors has told Alba that without telling the rest of the cast.

‘I only have, from the vague memories I have of working with her, I only remember her being super talented,’ Garth said.

‘She was very young. She was really sweet, and it does not surprise me that she’s gone on to be so successful.’

Spelling even revealed that she buys Alba’s baby wipes to clean her children.
