Kate Beckinsale reveals tragic truth of losing her baby

Underworld actress Kate Beckinsale came to the defense of Chrissy Teigen after the model shared Instagram photos of herself in the hospital following her miscarriage, revealing a tragic truth about her own baby. The British actress took to Instagram to defend Teigen against criticism that the Cravings author had shared too much by posting photos of herself and husband John Legend mourning the loss of their baby boy after the model was admitted to the hospital for excess bleeding in the second trimester of her pregnancy.

“I’ve noticed people criticizing @chrissyteigen … as if there’s some protocol during soul-scouring calamity that, if not observed, emboldens people who do not know her or her family to say how she should be handling the unimaginable,” Beckinsale wrote. The actress continued by explaining that she “think[s] it’s an honor to be allowed into another person’s grief, especially with a subject like this which so often puts a woman into that hall of mirrors state of life continuing as if the world hasn’t, for you, come to a bloody and terrible halt.”

Beckinsale then allowed fans into her own grief, by sharing that she once lost a baby as well.

Kate Beckinsale understands Chrissy Teigen's pain

While speaking up for Chrissy Teigen in the wake of the loss of the model’s third child, actress Kate Beckinsale shared that she understands Teigen’s pain after losing a baby herself. “Years ago, I lost a baby at 20 weeks. I had managed to keep my pregnancy quiet and I absolutely collapsed inside and no one would have known,” she wrote on Instagram. “There is grief, shame, and shock so often that come with an experience like this, plus the heartbreak of your body continuing, after the loss, to act as if it had a child to nurture. Your milk comes in, with no one to feed.”

Beckinsale continued by alluding to Teigen’s husband, John Legend, and presumably supportive network, writing, “It can be the loneliest, most soul-destroying period of time, particularly if you are not in the position of having an emotionally connected, supportive partner like Chrissy has.”

“Thank you for making sure it is abundantly clear how devastating this is, and how life-changing it can be,” the actress wrote to Teigen. The post also included a poem about babies who are “born to be angels” and “learning to fly with wings in paradise,” which was a touching if heart-wrenching sentiment.
