Apple will stream its annual September gadget showcase tonight – and the next iPhone, rumoured to be branded iPhone 12, could be unveiled at during the presentation. Everything kicks off at 6pm BST (10am Pacific Time, 1pm Eastern Time, 7pm Central European Time) and will be streamed online in a number of ways, so there’s no excuse for missing all of the action. As usual, Apple will host a livestream of its special event on its own website (here) however, while these streams work perfectly in Safari on iPhone, iPad, MacBooks and more… they don’t always place nice with Google Chrome web browsers, or Windows 10 devices.

Thankfully, Apple is also hosting its September event on YouTube (right here) which works with just about every phone on the planet and can be beamed to your telly using a Google Chromecast or Android TV dongle, like the Nvidia Shield. You’ll also be able to watch on any YouTube apps available on your iPhone, Android smartphone, Smart TV, or games console. And finally, if you have an Apple TV – Apple drops a dedicated app to watch its latest events, which should be accessible on your main screen this evening. We’ve embedded the YouTube stream for the Apple Event above, so you can sit back, put your feet up and stream right here without a worry.

So, what are we expecting to see at the Apple Event tonight? Well, it’s set to be an unmissable event with Tim Cook and co rumoured to be showcasing tonnes of new devices, such as their first-ever budget Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Series 6 and maybe – just maybe – the first look at the iPhone 12 range, although we suggest you prepare yourself for disappointment on that front.

That’s because the latter is a bit of an uncertainty. In any typical year, you would bet your house on Apple unveiling their latest and greatest iPhone in September. That’s what the Cupertino tech giant has historically done, but as we all know this year is different than any other – with COVID-19 impacting all aspects of our lives.

And there are murmurs that the coronavirus pandemic could have impacted Apple’s iPhone launch plans, with a later release date being mooted by some. If that’s the case then the iPhone 12 may skips today’s big event and instead be unveiled during a separate October event.

iPhone 12 release event: new AirPods, iPad Air, Apple Watch Series 6

Even if Apple doesn’t showcase the iPhone 12 today there will still be plenty of big announcements in store. Arguably the most interesting reveal will be the unveiling of the rumoured Apple Watch SE – a new range of lower-priced smartwatches.

Given how big a seller the iPhone SE devices have been, an Apple Watch SE could go down a huge hit with those looking to grab their first ever wearable. Elsewhere, besides the Apple Watch Series 6 and latest iPad Air, the next version of Apple’s AirPods could also get unveiled at today’s event.

While there are also rumours that Apple could be about to reveal a 14 inch MacBook Pro, which if it doesn’t get announced today could get revealed next week. We’ll have to wait and see whether the iPhone 12 debuts today too or is held back for a later event. But if the rumours are anything to go by it’ll be worth the wait.

iPhone 12 killer feature DITCHED days before release? Samsung and Google will be overjoyed

It’s believed the iPhone 12 will see the biggest shake-up to the device since the 2017 release of the iPhone X.

The iPhone 12 is expected to feature a metal, square-edged frame similar to the iPhone 4.

There will be a number of different models available for iPhone fans in 2020, with at least two models allegedly featuring flat, stainless steel edges instead of curved ones.

The iPhone 2020 range is expected to be made up of four models in three different display sizes – 5.4inch, 6.7inch and two handsets with 6.1inch screens.

But unlike previous years, all iPhone 2020 models are expected to feature an OLED display regardless of price. Which will be a big step up for those used to LCD screens.

A 120Hz ‘ProMotion’ refresh rate could be included in the higher-end devices which also are expected to boast a triple-lens rear camera set-up.

Meanwhile, the high-end iPhone 12 models could also feature a mode which allows user to shoot 4K video at 120 and 240 frames per second, offering crystal clear clarity.

The front facing camera is also expected to get a big refresh, with a 3D depth sensor added in that will make augmented reality more stable and realistic.

This type of sensor is known as a time of flight sensor, which the name of today’s Apple event (‘Time Flies’) could be alluding to.
