German tabloid Bild claims the 67-year-old booked out all of the Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl in Bavaria after getting the green light from local officials.
The hotel is supposed to have closed down like all others in the region but has received “special permission” from the district council to accommodate the king’s huge entourage.
Pen pushers revealed they had made an exception to the rule as “the guests are a single, homogenous group of people with no changes”.
It is unclear if the wealthy King's four wives are also staying in the four star hotel in the Alpine resort town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
However, 119 members of the entourage – including multiple servants – have reportedly been flown back to Thailand over fears they have the killer virus.
News of the monarch's self-isolation was met with anger by tens of thousands of people in his homeland, who risked breaking the country’s lèse-majesté laws by slamming him online.
Under the archaic laws, anyone who insults or criticises the monarchy faces up to 15 years behind bars.
But a hashtag which translated to 'Why do we need a king?' appeared 1.2 million times on Twitter within 24 hours of news breaking he was in Germany, reports The Times.
The Thai embassy in Berlin did not respond to requests for comment on Bild's claims.
The country's Ministry of Public Health announced on Saturday 109 new cases in the country, bringing the total number of infections to 1,245.
Claims about the king came as a German state finance minister apparently killed himself after despairing over how to handle the coronavirus crisis.
Thomas Schaefer, a 54-year-old married father-of-two, was found dead on Saturday in Hochheim, near Frankfurt in Germany’s Hesse region. Police are treating it as suicide.
Meanwhile, it's been revealed Malaysia's king and queen have been placed under quarantine after seven palace staff members tested positive for coronavirus.
