Stranger Things fans call out Mrs Holland and Nancy Wheeler plot hole after botched kidnapping – The Sun

STRANGER Things fans have noticed something amiss with one of the popular Netflix show’s many sub-plots.

Among the most beloved shows on the streaming giant, Stranger Things has amassed a global fan base, but with the popularity comes increased scrutiny.

Now eagle-eyed viewers have unearthed a plot hole in the second season of the sci-fi hit.

The faux pas follows the tragic loss of Nancy Wheeler’s (Natalia Dyer) best friend Barb Holland (Shannon Purser).

Barb was taken out by the Demogorgon after she stormed off into the woods following an argument with Nancy.

Her body was never found, meaning her exact fate remains a mystery – and the disappearance remained a point of interest in season 2.

Nancy and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) made a point of looking into the corporation behind Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) powers, the Hawkins National Library.

The group, who opened the rift to the Upside Down and subsequently se the Demogorgon responsible for Barb’s death free, ultimately got wise to the fact that the teens were investigating their shady antics.

Nancy and Jonathan had contacted Barb’s mother Marsha (Cynthia Barrett) with a lead about her disappearance, agreeing to meet at the local park.

However, the duo soon realised they were being followed by a pair of agents from the Hawkins National Library.

They had counted on their call getting intercepted and were intentionally trying to capture the attention of the sinister organisation.

After a lacklustre effort to flee, they were subsequently captured and found themselves incarcerated in the very lab they were investigating, in accordance with their plan.

This is all very well and good except for one major plot point – Marsha’s appearance is never accounted for.

If she had been around, surely she would have seen and reported the abduction, or even tried to intervene.

It certainly seems unlikely she would have stood the pair up, given her desperation to find her daughter.

Fans took to Reddit to call out the oversight, with user pariseiffel39 writing: “I just realised that Nancy and Jonathan called Mrs. Holland on purpose to get into the lab in mid season two.

“But that still doesn't explain what happened with Mrs. Holland. Did she just write it off as a joke and not come?” they asked.

“Did somebody from the lab get to them first, or was she told about this beforehand? Because she wouldn't just not show up after what Nancy told her on the phone.”

The post was soon flooded with upvoted and messages of agreement from equally confused fans.

“Classic oversight from the writers,” one quipped, alongside an eye roll emoji.

While another chipped in: “Definitely a loose end, unfortunately I doubt we’ll ever know.”

The theory comes after Jim Hopper actor David Harbour complained he was “beaten up constantly” during filming for upcoming Marvel film Black Widow.

Stranger Things seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix now.
