'Sore loser' drives BMW at referee during football match

Shocking footage shows the moment a ‘sore loser’ drove his car onto a football pitch and allegedly appeared to attempt to run over a referee and teenage players during a match in South Africa.

A video circulating online shows the unidentified individual drive a BMW at speed in a straight line down the field, as a group of fans scurry to avoid being hit at an ABC Motsepe League game at Letlhabile Sports ground in Brits in the North West on Sunday.

The vehicle swerves and drives by another group of fans sitting on chairs, many of whom run to protect themselves at the match between home side Luka Ball Controllers and Polokwane City Rovers FC.

The Ball Controllers supporter became angry when Rovers scored their second goal to bring the score to 2-1 having initially fallen behind, according to The Citizen.

However, Safa’s legal head Tebogo Motlhanthe has asked for caution, claiming they would need to tread carefully as they attempt to make sense of the matter.

He said: ‘Charging anyone right now would be jumping the gun. I cannot safely say we are to charge anyone on a mere security issue.

‘We are first going to get reports from both teams and the match officials and the reports will advise us on what to do.’

Makara told Sowetan Live he had opened a case of public disturbance at Letlhabile Police Station until action was taken.

He has requested police protection for all future games.

Moloantao said a disciplinary hearing on the incident is set to take place in the coming days.
