This is how much Octomom is actually worth

If you don’t recognize the name Nadya Suleman, that’s because once upon a time she went by Octomom. Welcoming eight babies into the world at the same time back in 2009 — with six kids already at home — Suleman became the mother of 14 children while also becoming a national phenomenon. At the time, she was also unemployed, which meant that her financial situation — and, therefore, her ability to care for her kids — was a matter of speculation that piqued the public’s curiosity.

These days, the her little ones have grown up considerably and Suleman has largely dropped out of the spotlight. That means Suleman’s mostly given up the potential for lucrative deals and paid interviews. Remember the days when she popped up on Dr. Phil and The Oprah Winfrey Show to give fans a look at her hectic, non-stop life (while also surely banking impressive appearance fees)? She even scored her own reality show, but failed to achieve the same level of success of other families like the Gosselins and Duggars, who also turned their home lives into TV-worthy content.

With all that being said, it shouldn’t surprise you to find out that Suleman isn’t exactly rich. However, she’s not destitute either. According to Celebrity Net Worth, she has around $300,000 to her name. That’s not bad a bad chunk of change for someone who went bankrupt not long after having her octuplets.

Bankruptcy, fraud, rehab, and an adult film were next for Octomom

While Nadya Suleman’s unusual family situation turned her into a celebrity (albeit, a controversial one), it didn’t result in a financial windfall for the mother of 14. In fact, in 2012, just a few years after the birth of the octuplets, Suleman filed for bankruptcy, claiming that she was $1 million in debt — and that was just one of Suleman’s troubles. She also faced accusations of “spending hundreds of thousands on plastic surgery to resemble … Angelina Jolie,” entered a rehab center to seek treatment for Xanax abuse, and handed over $26,000 in a welfare fraud case.

During that same time frame, Suleman was making money in ways that were raising eyebrows. In 2012, she posed nude for $8,000 and also appeared in an adult film while working as a stripper. “I have to do what I have to do to take care of my family, and I’m not ashamed. I’m not ashamed at all,” she told People magazine after the naked photoshoot. “I’ve never sacrificed my morals and values.”

However, Suleman’s thoughts on the racy ways she was earning a living seem to have changed over time. Eventually, she decided to put her stripping days behind her and instead put her B.A. in child development to work in order to pursue a career as a counselor. These days, she seems to not only be surviving, but is thriving, as are all 14 of kids.
