Windows users hit by annoying outage which stops them using the search function

Microsoft users were struck by an outage today which stopped them accessing the vital Windows search bar.

The bug left people unable to use search for several hours and appears to be widespread.

In a tweet, Microsoft said: ‘We’re investigating a potential access and latency issue with multiple Microsoft 365 services.’

Microsoft 365 is a cloud-based service offering access to Office, Windows 10 and other software made by the tech giant.

It’s likely the problem was caused by some sort of problem on Microsoft’s side.

The company said the problem has now been fixed.

Earlier today on Reddit, one user wrote: ‘I seem to have gotten the same problem as well and on both of my laptops. The search just stopped working a couple hours ago seemingly out of nowhere.’

On Twitter, another Microsoft user added: ‘Windows search is not working, it just shows a blank screen.’

It’s been suggested that the problem is down to integration with Bing which allows you to look for stuff on the internet using the search bar.

There’s a complex fix for this you can read about on How To Geek, but we’d advise just sitting tight if you’re still affected and waiting for Microsoft to fix the problem.
