It’s often portrayed as a lazy activity, but playing video games just got a lot more physical thanks to one YouTuber.
Allen Pan, a YouTuber based in Los Angeles, has transformed his treadmill into a PlayStation 4 controller to force him to exercise.
In the video, Mr Pan said: “How do we make we exercise, not just for January, but forever?”, before pointing to a broken treadmill.
Through a number of complex processes, which I’m not going to delve into, Mr Pan managed to sync the treadmill to a PlayStation 4 controller and the game Death Stranding.
He explained: “If those whole set up works like I think it should, I’ll be able to start walking on the treadmill and that will make Norman Reedus start walking in the game.”
While this sounds pretty fun, in practice it looks absolutely exhausting.
Mr Pan said: “This is actually really nauseating. It really gets you in the quads and the stomach.”
Unfortunately, Mr Pan has no plans to sell the treadmill, although many viewers were eager to try the technology themselves.
One viewer commented: “This is honestly genius and we should all have something like this in our homes…”
Another wrote: “If gyms had this setup I might actually go to the gym.”
And one joked: “Imagine if gyms incorporated this technology into their equipment, imagine all the nerds that would be in there screaming and yelling like the ones in the video.”
