Leaked video shows Samsung's upcoming bendy phone in action

Samsung isn’t a company to sit still for very long when it comes to pushing out weird and wacky new gadgets.

The South Korean tech giant suffered an embarrassment last year when the much-hyped Galaxy Fold phone broke the minute reviewers got their hands on it. But now it’s back with a new type of phone similar to the rebooted Motorola Razr from yesteryear.

Just like Motorola’s effort, Samsung’s new device appears like an old clamshell phone but features a continuous touchscreen once it’s been unfolded.

It’s believed to be called the ‘Samsung Galaxy Z Flip’ and could be officially unveiled later this month alongside Samsung’s more mainstream challenger to the iPhone. The company is holding a special event in San Francisco on February 11 and gadget fans believe we will see a new flagship Galaxy device.

But serial tech-leaker Benjamin Geskin appears to have gotten hold of the Z Flip and posted a video on Twitter showing it folding and unfolding.

Since posting, the short video racked up over three million views. So clearly some people are very interested in a new take on the clamshell phone.

A few specs have also been mentioned across the internet, giving us an idea of what the Z Flip may be capable of. According to reports, it will use a Snapdragon 855+ processor with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

Running on Android 10, it will also have a 12MP rear-facing camera and a second 12MP ultrawide option. The selfie camera will be a 10MP affair on the inside of the phone once you flip it open. The inside screen is rumoured to measure in at 6.7-inches while a small, 1.06-inch external display on the outside will light up with notifications and the time.

We’ll have to wait for Samsung’s event next week to ultimately confirm whether or not these rumours are accurate. And, more importantly, to learn what kind of price Samsung may charge for an old design done in a new way.

Will people actually buy it though? That remains to be seen.
