Derek Jeter fell one vote shy of becoming an unanimous Hall of Famer on Tuesday night, drawing outrage from many on social media.
Jeter had been trending toward unanimity, which would have made him the second baseball player behind Mariano Rivera last year to reach Hall of Fame perfection.
Members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America who vote are not required to disclose their vote, so the world may never find out who was behind Jeter’s miss.
Jeter officially received 99.7 percent of the vote. Larry Walker, the NL MVP in 1997, also was elected into the Hall of Fame by appearing on 76.6 percent of ballots.
