It might only be a month until Samsung CEO DJ Koh pulls the Galaxy S11 out of his pocket on-stage at Samsung’s scheduled Unpacked event and tells Android fans all about its new features. Rumours and leaks have suggested the Galaxy S11 will come in three models that will succeed the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ respectively. In addition to toting 5G support, the flagship series is also anticipated to place a great emphasis on its camera by offering a 108-megapixel main sensor and a 5x optical zoom à la Huawei P30 Pro. But don’t let all the flashy specs fool you, the Galaxy S11 might not be the most exciting new handset coming from Samsung next month.
As teased by Samsung in a recent Tweet, the firm is expected to unveil two separate device series’ on February 11. In addition to the Galaxy S11, it’s also been widely tipped the firm is gearing up to lift the lid on its next foldable phone.
It seems Samsung is going to try and steal some of Motorola’s retro thunder with its next pliable handset. Back in November the Chicago-based manufacturer not only resuscitated its Razr brand, but it also souped it up with a foldable OLED while still retaining the original’s nostalgic look and feel.
Samsung’s next foldable handset is rumoured to feature a similar clamshell design to the Razr, complete with an exterior display so you can quickly catch up on the time and date with a glance. Alleged images of the handset surfaced last year and showed the device with an all-screen main display, complete with a hole punch, and a dual-camera system on its rear.
Unlike the original Galaxy Fold, Samsung’s latest pliable venture is expected to use a glass display, not a plastic one. This should severely up the ante when it comes to durability – it only takes a quick search on YouTube to see Galaxy Fold owners damaging their displays permanently with their fingernail alone…
Previously presumed to be called the Galaxy Fold 2, it seems Samsung’s next handset could adopt an unexpected title. Korean outlet Ajunews recently posted a report claiming the firm is gearing up to release its second pliable handset as the “Galaxy Bloom”. In fact, the outlet even showcased an alleged promotional picture of the device, complete with name branding, that was allegedly shown off by Samsung behind closed doors at CES in Las Vegas last week.
The latest image of the Galaxy Bloom seem to align with what we’ve seen and heard so far in rumours and leaks. It’s currently unclear if the Bloom will replace the original Fold on the market or if it’ll be offered as a substitute to Android fans that prefer its form factor.
The possibility of a new folding phone from Samsung ready to lock horns with the Motorola Razr for retro glory is certainly more exciting than anything the Galaxy S11 has to offer, at least in our humble opinion.
Internally, it’s rumoured the Galaxy Bloom will come fitted with last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and not its brand spanking new 865. Although the reasoning for this is unclear, it’s possible the 865 hadn’t been announced when Samsung’s engineering team were toying with the foldable phone’s internals.
Of course, all speculation around Samsung’s forthcoming handsets needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. After all, nothing is official until the Seoul firm says so on-stage.
Express.co.uk will be covering all of Samsung’s announcements on February 11. So stay tuned.
