Dr Who’s Jodie Whittaker says show ‘can’t please everybody’ amid show’s return

Doctor Who actress Jodie Whittaker has revealed that the show "can't please everybody" after playing The Doctor for just over a year.

The 37-year-old televison star returned back to our screens last night as the Time Lord as the first episode of the latest series, Spyfall aired on BBC .

Speaking ahead of the show's return for series 12, Jodie admitted she wouldn't be able to please everyone at all times.

She told RadioTimes.com: "It is a show that’s run for so many years, and with history and hindsight, there’s bits people love, and bits people don’t love.

"But you can’t cater for all of that. You’ve just got to tell the stories you want to tell."

However, Jodie remained hopeful that the latest series would prove popular with the show's fans.

She added: "Under the leadership with the writers and with [showrunner] Chris Chibnall, we feel like we’re in very safe hands.

“We’re guided from the point of view of one of the biggest Doctor Who fans I know.”

While some fans were left divided over the last series, the cast aren't feeling the pressure for Series 12.

Tosin Cole, who plays companion Ryan Sinclair, explained: There's less pressure because we know what we're doing now.

"Last year it was a new show-runner, a new Doctor, new companions, a new time on the show.

"Everything was just brand new. Now that we've done that, everyone's survived and everyone's ok."

Fans were left on the edge of their seat after last night's debut episode.

The show ended on a cliffhanger with O (Sacha Dhawan) unveiled as The Doctor's nemesis.

The Master is one of the mot iconic villians in Doctor Who history and is the closest thing The Doctor has to both an arch-enemy and a best friend.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One on Sunday at 7pm
