Real Housewives of Orange County alum Meghan King Edmonds plans to kick off the new year with an admirable resolution: be a better co-parent with her ex-husband, Jim Edmonds. The couple, who announced their divorce in October, had been married for five years and share three-year-old daughter, Aspen, and 18-month-old twin sons, Hart and Hayes.
King Edmonds recently spoke with Us Weekly and said she has “really high hopes” that she and the former baseball player will work together to raise their kids in a loving, amicable environment.
“I think the new year, especially, and the new decade, is a great way to kind of launch positive thinking and the law of attraction,” she told the entertainment outlet. “I don’t know. New beginnings are huge, so I’m looking forward to that.”
The hopeful resolution comes after months of embittered fighting between the former reality duo. Us Weekly reports that the pair separated shortly after King Edmonds accused her ex of having an affair with their 22-year-old nanny, Carly Wilson. Both Edmonds and Wilson denied the allegations, and Wilson wrote she had “not and never would participate in any action involving infidelity” on Instagram.
The cheating rumors have been just one of the ongoing issues in the divorce proceedings. King Edmonds has also accused her ex of being “controlling” and “manipulative to the public” to smear her name.
“I have endured prolific controlling by Jim and it isn’t slowing down,” she told Us Weekly in November. “Even when I make an unassuming post on Instagram, he hurls insults at me for a battery of made-up indiscretions. I’m sick of the abuse and I won’t engage anymore — and I don’t have to.”
She continued to say that Edmonds’ claims that he had tried to keep the peace were news to her. “That’s not fair to me,” she told Us. “He is not my mouthpiece, and I believe the facade he presented is false and manipulative to the public while using and taking advantage of me.”
Edmonds, too, claimed that King Edmonds had used her social media platform as a weapon against. “Just because you’re extremely witty and intelligent and know how to play the Instagram game doesn’t give you the right to use that platform to wrongfully accuse,” he wrote in an Instagram post, according to Us.
But the divorce is just one major change in King Edmonds’ life. In July, King Edmonds wrote in a blog post that the couple’s son, Hart, has Periventricular Leukomalacia, an irreversible form of brain damage. Recently, she reflected on her emotionally testing year in a blog post titled, “Eat a Burger.”
“Within the last 5 months I have found out my son has a lifelong brain injury, my husband had a sexting relationship with another woman, my husband also betrayed me with his inappropriate relationship with a nanny, my husband filed for divorce via the tabloids, the police questioned my fitness as a mother, I took a new job as a podcaster, and I moved into a new home in California so I can devote family time to all of my kids during Hart’s therapy,” she wrote. “Let me reiterate: all of this has happened within the last 150 days.”
Co-parenting can be challenging, but it is possible. Hopefully, King Edmonds gets the support she needs for herself and her kids in the new year.
