A Christmas Carol kicked off on BBC One last night and saw the first episode of the mini-series air. While viewers were left divided as to whether or not they liked this adaptation of the iconic Charles Dickens novel, there were a few who had tuned in a noticed a glaring blunder. Did you spot it too?
The famous novella which was first published in 1843 recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge (played by Guy Pearce), an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley (Stephen Graham), and the spirits of Christmas Past (Andy Serkis), Present (Charlotte Riley) and Yet to Come (Jason Flemyng).
Set in the early 19th Century Victorian England, the story begins on a bleak, cold Christmas Eve in London, seven years after Jacob’s death.
Scrooge dislikes Christmas and refuses a dinner invitation from his nephew Fred – the son of Fan, Scrooge’s dead sister.
This is the beginning of his life being turned around, but while many tuned in to see “Stave One” reenacted on the small screen last night, a few noticed the time frame had expanded to allow for the events of Christmas Eve to span across three evenings for viewing pleasure.

One reader said: “Anyone noted that it’s Christmas Eve, yet the ghosts are going to visit over 3 nights which means it can’t be Christmas Day when he wakes from the final ghost. What a blatant mistake.”
While someone on Twitter wrote: “Wait what, did he say three NIGHTS? I’m confused. #AChristmasCarol.”
“Hmmm… I thought the entire point was that the plot takes place over a single night?!” Another chimed.
While a BBC One viewer added: “Read the book, that’s what the ghost says, one each night. Always found it slightly odd!.”
This BBC adaptation had been created by Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight and parts of the street scenes were filmed in Hampstead.
The crew and cast also travelled up to Warwickshire to film scenes at Lord Leycester Hospital too.
However, the scenes of Scrooge’s home was filmed back in London.
More specifically, at the National Trust site Rainham Hall in Rainham which was closed to the public for filming in May.

Ahead of tonight’s second instalment, it seems not as many will be tuning in.
It comes after last night’s initial episode which was branded “too dark” and “slow” with some viewers criticising the speech of the actors claiming they were “mumbling”.
To add to matters, many complained about the extensive use of swearing scripted into the mini-series.

Many took to social media to complain.
One said: “I turned over when Scrooge / Mike from Neighbours said f**k. And I’m proper sweary!”
“A Christmas Carol not very good not going to lie really not true to the novella a few quotes thrown in but more comedic with swear words just added in for a laugh not as good as I thought it would be! Shame!” Someone else added.
A third remarked: “I don’t remember Dickens EVER using the F word. I swear like a trouper, but – in this context – it feels neither big nor clever.”
A Christmas Carol returns tonight on BBC One.
