Walt Disney World gives first look inside new immersive Star Wars ride

Star Wars fans, get ready to take on Kylo Ren and the First Order in a brand new immersive ride at Walt Disney World in Orlando!

The highly-anticipated new ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is finally opening on Thursday 5th December at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

In fact, it will be part of the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge , an immersive land set on Planet Batuu where visitors get to interact with the characters and droids, as well as other experiences from having a drink in Oga's Cantina to building your own lightsaber.

Now, Walt Disney World has offered a glimpse at what guests can expect – and it's the first time there's been a sneak peek inside the ride.

In Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, visitors will be drawn into the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance – including a face-off with Kylo Ren himself, as well as appearances from Rey and Chewbacca.

Guests will step onboard a full-size transport shuttle and then head to a nearby Star Destroyer where they will be immersed into the heart of the action.

Oh and yes – there will be plenty of Stormtroopers to watch out for.

The whole attraction uses a number of ride systems to create the immersive story. In fact, Disney is promising that it will be "one of the most immersive, ambitious and technologically advanced experiences in Disney history".

It won't be the only ride on offer for those who venture into Planet Batuu.

The Star Wars inspired land will also feature Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run where you get to control the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, taking on one of three roles – pilot, engineer or gunner.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is already open in Walt Disney World, while the Disneyland Park in California also opened the same offering earlier this year.

Both lands include the Millennium Falcon and Rise of the Resistance rides. (The California park will welcome the latter on the 17th January 2020).

Bob Chapek, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, said: "Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the most ambitious, immersive, advanced, action-packed attraction we’ve ever created.

"We threw out the rulebook when designing this attraction to deliver experiential storytelling on a massive, cinematic scale.

"Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance sets a new standard for what a theme park experience can be – just like Galaxy’s Edge, itself.

"None of this would be possible without the incredible teams at Walt Disney Imagineering, Disneyland and Walt Disney World, who brought not one, but two award-winning lands to life at the same time."
