Susan Sarandon, 73, shows a black eye from her concussion… as she admits she’s ‘lucky’ to have healthcare cover costs from terrifying fall

She’s recovering from a minor slip which resulted in terrifying battle wounds.

And Susan Sarandon took the opportunity to praise her health care coverage while showing off a black eye with a selfie posted on Instagram Tuesday morning.

The 73-year-old actress seemed to be in an upbeat mood despite her appearance after a ‘little slip’ caused a host of issues on her face.

‘I’m lucky. I have Medicare to cover my visit to ER,’ she wrote. ‘Everyone deserves the same, not access, not pathway to, not option. M4A saves $. Nobody loses their home because of cancer, no rationing insulin. You know, like the rest of the free world.’

Earlier in the week, Susan canceled a speaking engagement at a campaign event for Bernie Sanders and shared a few photos of the injury that caused her to back out of the speech.

‘A little slip = concussion, fractured nose, banged up knee. So, looks like I won’t be able to meet the folks in New Hampshire with Senator Sanders tomorrow,’ she wrote.

She shared a copy of the stump speech she was planning to give for the would-be Democratic presidential nominee, with the recurring line: ‘This is an emergency.’

She added, ‘This is not the time for a “pathway” to or “framework” for incremental change. Emergencies require bold, visionary leadership.’

Her candidate, she said, ‘has been fighting for social, racial and economic justice his entire life, long before running for President, often before it was acceptable. Now it’s time for us to fight for him.’

Susan was a staunch Bernie supporter during the 2016 primary and scandalized some Democrats by refusing to vote for Hillary Clinton in the general election.

The day before her fall Susan posted a sweet throwback snap taken a decade ago with fellow actresses Saoirse Ronan and Rose McIver.

Susan was playing Saoirse and Rose’s grandmother in Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of Alice Sebold’s bestselling 2002 novel The Lovely Bones.

Although the film version was critically panned, Stanley Tucci earned an Oscar nod as the serial killer who rapes and murders Saoirse’s character Susie Salmon.

Susan’s hard-drinking, tough-talking Grandma Lynn whirls into the Salmon household and injects a bit of life back into the grieving family.

‘Our family is starting down a new path’: Susan’s injury comes a week after her pregnant daughter Eva Amurri announced her split from her husband Kyle Martino

As usual with Peter Jackson movies, The Lovely Bones was filmed in New Zealand, and Rose, who played Susie’s sister Lindsay, wore an ‘I [heart] NZ’ pin in the photo.

Susan’s injury comes a week after her pregnant daughter Eva Amurri announced her split from her husband Kyle Martino.

The pair, whose upcoming child will be their third, have been handling the separation amicably and she showed on her Insta Stories this week that she is ‘rocking this gorgeous friendship ring Kyle gave me on our anniversary this year to commemorate our 8 year marriage.’
