Country singer Sam Hunt was arrested in the early morning hours of Thursday for a DUI.

The 34-year-old crooner was booked in a Metro jail in Nashville, Tennessee, at 6:30 am on charges of driving under the influence and having an open container, according to the Metro Nashville police department. 

The hitmaker – best known for the singles Drinkin’ Too Much and Body Like A Back Road – was swerving and then ‘crossed the center divide several times in his vehicle’ along Ellington Parkway claimed TMZ.

Police told the site that he ‘smelled of booze’ and had bloodshot eyes.

And there were allegedly two empty beer cans next to him in his car.

The site added that ‘while he was searching for his ID, cops say it was very openly sitting on his lap.’ He also showed the officers a credit card and a passport instead of her driver’s license.

Hunt took a field sobriety test and had a blood-alcohol level of .173. That is more than twice the legal limit.

He had admitted that he had been drinking that night, the site added.

Hunt posted a $2,500 bond and was released on Thursday morning at 9 am. He is scheduled to appear in court in Tennessee on January 17, 2020.

Hunt was born in Cedartown, Georgia.
