Patsy Kensit has opened up about her scary experience with early menopause in 2013 and the disastrous side effects from her HRT treatment.
The actress, 51, first began noticing symptoms in her mid-forties after having a hysterectomy following a cancer scare.
After seeing her doctor, she was given a hormone therapy implant – a day before she was due to make an appearance on This Morning.
During the 2013 interview, Patsy slurred her words, told rambling anecdotes and appeared in a confused and nervous state.
Looking back at the disastrous telly appearance, Patsy admitted she "should never have been allowed to do any promotion" while suffering such drastic side effects.
In a column written for The Sunday Times Style magazine , Patsy explained her misunderstood symptoms.
She wrote: "Something was wrong: I felt like I had been drugged. I was nauseous, dizzy and terrified, with chronic blurred vision. I had also developed a slight stutter…
"The red light on the cameras came on and I froze
"I was disorientated and resorting to saying: 'I'm sorry, I've just had a hysterectomy. I'm having a bad reaction to an HRT implant I was given last night.'
"At that point the interview was over. I knew the fallout was going to be disastrous."
Despite confessing to being in the middle of "full blown menopause", Patsy was slammed online and "accused of being on drugs and drunk".
She wrote: "I was ripped apart, vilified and held up as yet another fallen star."
"Sadly, there was no pill to re-establish my self-confidence…
The fall-out from the interview triggered the start of Patsy's journey to "champion her rights as a menopausal woman."
After being prescribed tailored hormones in the former of lozenge, Patsy says she returned to her normal self within a week.
While the mother-of-two admitted she will probably never feel like the "pre-menopausal version of me again", she described herself as a new woman with more resilience.
The actress also described how her sons James, 27, and Lennon, 20, are party of a new generation who aren't "squeamish" or "naive" about these things.
Patsy, who starred in ITV's Tina & Bobby, continues to encourage women to be honest about what they're going through and has self-labelled the experience as "conscious puberty".
