Voice of the Mirror: Boris Johnson has no shame – and he has shamed his office

Boris Johnson’s statement to MPs last night was one of the most disgraceful ever delivered by a Prime Minister.

The Supreme Court ruled that he had threatened democracy with his unlawful suspension of Parliament.

A person of integrity would have resigned in the face of such a judgement or, at the very least, apologised.

Instead, Johnson showed no humility, no contrition and no dignity. By rejecting the Supreme Court’s ruling he shows he thinks he is above the law.

Johnson is taking the country down a dangerous path by attacking them in such foam-flecked language. This is the behaviour of a demagogue, not a democrat.

He accused Jeremy Corbyn of cowardice by refusing to grant him a general election, yet he is the one who is so scared of being held to account, he tried to close down Parliament.

The truth is that Johnson has no plan for Brexit and no care for the institutions that underpin our democracy.

He has no shame but he has shamed his office.

Trump call is not the act of a patriot

With Donald Trump it is never America First. It is always Donald Trump first.

The notes of his phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offer conclusive proof he’s unfit for office.

The President abused his position to ask a foreign leader to dig dirt on a political rival.

This is not the act of a patriot, but of someone prepared to subvert democracy in order to cling on to power.

Remember, this is a President who has refused to release his tax returns or give up his business interests since taking office.

Trump came to power vowing to clear the swamp.

Instead he has polluted it still further with treasonous behaviour that makes Richard Nixon look like a saint.
