MegaBots lists 16ft combat robot on ebay and bid hits $50,000

Giant 16ft combat robot that weighs 12 tons could be yours after it is listed on eBay by MegaBots with bids quickly hitting $50,000

  • MegaBots’ Eagle Prime won a robot dual in 2017 against Japan’s robot
  • Eagle Prime its 15-ton, two-story tall and can now be purchased on ebay
  • Firm filed bankruptcy after defaulting on a loan and is auctioning off the robot
  • Bidding started at $1 earlier today and has since rose to over $50,000
  • Purchaser will get weapons,  CAD files and shipping container full of parts

A massive robot couldn’t take down Eagle Prime, but a defaulted loan has.

MegaBots is selling its 15-ton, two-story tall Giant Robot Dual champion on ebay after filing for bankruptcy –the firm was unable to pay interested on their loan.

MegaBots was originally conceived as a Kickstarter project to create a robot fighting league after it challenged Tokyo-based Suidobashi Heavy Industries, maker of the 13-foot Kuratas, in 2015 to the first giant robot battle of its kind.

The Eagle Prime stands at 16 feet (five meters tall), weighs 12 tons, and has 430 horsepower.

But unfortunately this massive mechanical monster may not see another day on the battlefield, as MegaBots is selling it on ebay.

The creators took out a loan to build Prime Eagle and unfortunately were unable to make the interest payments and defaulted.

‘Hi Everyone! It’s been an awesome ride. We all really appreciate everyone’s support. A few things: Please do not feel bad for us/me,’ Megabots shared in the comments of the YouTube video.

‘This was an incredible journey and I think I speak for the entire team when I say I am VERY happy it happened. Instead, let’s all celebrate how far we actually got. And who knows, maybe the robot sells for enough to try again?’

Bidding began at the standard $1, but in just a few hours rose to over $50,000.

And although it may seem like a steal for something some extravagant, the extra few thousand may have people second guessing the purchase.

Eagle Prime is shipping from Oakland, California and will cost west coast buyers $4,000 for in shipping and east coasters will have to hand over $17,000.

For international delivery, customers should expect to pay at least $50,000 and shipping will take about 2 months.

This combat machine is equipped with fully-functional weapons, CAD files and a shipping container full of parts — and it can be yours for some $51,000.

Included is an arm claw attachment that is a mirrored duplicate of the robots right arm; a giant drill attachment was used once; two giant knifes that can attach to either side of the robot; and a giant double barreled pneumatic cannon.

However, the California company has noted that the cannon may or may not work since it was used as a battering ram in the fight with japan, but it should be repairable.

In 2015, MegaBots challenged Japan to a giant robot dual, and a team of experts from the country quickly accepted.

MEET JAPAN’S KURATAS

Kuratas can be operated using a ‘Master-Slave system’ where users control the robot’s movements from outside using any device with a 3G network.

It weighs 9,000 pounds and is controlled by a pilot in the cockpit or remotely using a smartphone or tablet.

They can also step inside the suit to control its movements in the same way as exoskeletons are used for fictional characters such as Iron Man.

Overall, the robot has around 30 hydraulic joints which the pilot moves using motion control. It comes in 16 colors, including black and pink.

Currently Kuratas is not capable of walking, but is able to drive at 6mph (10 km/h)

It can also be fitted with a futuristic weapons system, including a gun capable of shooting 6,000 BB bullets a minute, which fires when the pilot smiles.

‘Automatic alignment allows you to lock on your enemy target. Kuratas will not allow any targets to escape,’ the company writes.

‘With the alignment set appropriately the system will fire BBs when the pilot smiles.’

Realizing that there may be a flaw with this system of opening fire, a video warns the pilot against smiling too much while operating the Kuratas weaponry.

However, there is another major caveat.

The robot is advertised as a kit, which means whoever buys it will also have to put it together.

Japan’s robot is called Kuratas.

And the ultimate robotic duel took place in 2017 – with Prime Eagle winning the champion title.

‘The robot is functional, it’s just being auctioned off as the company is bankrupt. For transparency, I want to inform you, (the bidder) of the idiosyncrasies you’re going to have to deal with,’ MegaBots shared on their ebay page.

‘Considering how complex this prototype is, they’re really not too bad.’
