SANTI CAZORLA’S stunner against Barcelona comes three years after he was told by doctors he may never walk again.
The ex-Arsenal playmaker left the Nou Camp in shock with a screamer from 30-yards out on his left foot.
Unfortunately for Villarreal, his sensational strike didn't change the result with the La Liga champions holding on for a 2-1 victory.
But for the Spanish maestro, it was the latest strike of an impressive season that has brought three goals.
It marks a huge turnaround in fortunes in the 34-year-old’s career – having undergone surgeries in 2017 that resulted in him losing eight centimetres from the tendon in his right foot.
The midfielder revealed how doctors came close to amputation after he contracted a potentially life-threatening infection – and all but wrote off his football career.
Cazorla told Marca in 2017: "If you manage to walk with your son again in the garden, be satisfied, they told me.
"He saw that I had a tremendous infection, that I had damaged part of the calcaneus bone and ate the Achilles tendon, I was eight centimetres missing!"
The former Malaga star left the Gunners in 2018 after his contract expired and joined Villarreal for a second time.
Cazorla made 46 appearances last term scoring seven goals, which earned him a Spain call up this summer.
And the Villarreal skipper has continued the consistency this season appearing in all six of his side’s fixtures.
