Christina Anstead
The HGTV star gushed about consuming her own placenta one week after announcing the summer 2019 birth of her baby boy, Hudson London Anstead.
Anstead decided to have her placenta put into pill form. The 36-year-old mom of three shared a photo of a pink container of gray placenta pills on her Instagram Story. In the background of the photo, her son Hudson can be seen sleeping in his bassinet. The Flip or Flop star shared, “First time I’ve tried it — and I think these placenta encapsulation [pills] are working ??.”

Hilary Duff
Duff and boyfriend Matthew Koma welcomed their first daughter, Banks Violet, together on Oct. 25, 2018. The actress, who had an at-home, “natural, drug-free,” water birth, later revealed that she drank her placenta in a smoothie on Dr. Elliot Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy podcast.
“It was the most delightful smoothie I’ve ever had,” she said. “I haven’t had a smoothie that delightful since I was 10. It was calorie-filled with juice and fruit and everything delicious.”

Kim Kardashian West
After giving birth to her second child with husband Kanye West, Saint, in 2015, the reality star decided to encapsulate her placenta to try and avoid postpartum depression.
“I’m having it freeze-dried and made into a pill form — not actually fry it like a steak and eat it (which some people do, BTW),” she shared in a post on her website. “Every time I take a pill, I feel a surge of energy and feel really healthy and good. I totally recommend it for anyone considering it!”

Chrissy Teigen
Teigen also wanted to beat the “baby blues” following the birth of her second child, Miles, with husband John Legend in May 2018. During an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning, the model revealed she ate her placenta and associated the act with why she felt primarily happy after her second pregnancy compared to her first with daughter Luna.
When host Rita Braver expressed skepticism about the placenta practice, Teigen responded with a laugh, “Really? That’s not a normal thing? I’m in L.A., it’s very normal. They grill it here. You can try some of mine after.”

Kourtney Kardashian
The eldest Kardashian sister posted an Instagram picture of her placenta pills following the birth of Reign, her third child with Scott Disick, in 2015.
“Yummy…PLACENTA pills! No joke…I will be sad when my placenta pills run out. They are life changing!” the star captioned the photo, including hashtags #benefits and #lookitup.

Nikki Reed
Reed, who welcomed daughter Bodhi Soleil in 2017 with husband Ian Somerhalder, also encapsulated her placenta — and was also super sad when her pills were almost gone. In a photo shared on Instagram, Reed held up a near-empty jar of capsules with a look of mock horror on her face.
“Last day of placenta pills. Not ready to say goodbye!!!!!” she captioned a post. “Ps sending love to all you mamas out there doing whatever feels right for you! This was recommended to me by my doula but that does not mean it’s for everyone :). Just do you! ❤️”

Katherine Heigl
The mom of three worked with a naturopath throughout her pregnancy with son Joshua Bishop, and had her placenta encapsulated after his birth in 2016.
She told PEOPLE that after her cesarean section, “They told me that another mother down the hall had a company that freeze dries pills. This guy came, he was a total cowboy: Cowboy hat, cowboy boots … and a bag of placenta! He took it to his wife who freeze-dried it and turned it into pills.”

Kayla Rae Reid
Almost one year after Reid and husband Ryan Lochte welcomed son Caiden Zane, she revealed her struggles with postpartum depression and attempt to resolve it with placenta pills.
“They didn’t work for me because I did not take them religiously,” she explained. “And I wish I would have just because I could have made some sort of a difference.”
