The struggle is real when it comes to explaining pregnancy to male partners who aren’t physically carrying the baby.

Shay Mitchell knows this all too well and recently took matters into her own hands.

In the “Pretty Little Liars” star’s third YouTube episode of “Almost Ready,” she quite literally makes boyfriend Matte Babel walk in her shoes.

The couple goes for a hike and Babel wears a 30-pound pregnancy suit—exactly the amount of extra weight Mitchell is carrying, she says. She even puts devices underneath his suit that make him “feel the kicks” of a tiny human.

Mitchell, 33, was attempting to help Babel understand what she is experiencing during her first pregnancy. She’s expecting a girl with Babel, 38.

In the video, the two can’t agree on some major parenting decisions such as breastfeeding versus formula or whether to get an epidural during labor.

The discussions followed a “baby basics” class.

Breastfeeding or formula?

Babel shared strong opinions on breastfeeding being the best way to nourish the child.

“If you can’t breastfeed, I completely understand…” Babel says, in which Mitchell replied, “Some women don’t want to.”

“I’m against that and I’m sure there’s a lot of women who are against it too,” Babel says. “I’m just thinking if you have the innate ability to breastfeed and the kid latches why would you not want the best for you baby?”

They bicker a bit before Mitchell explains, “because formulas are good, too.”

Babel goes on to share some benefits of breastfeeding, but ends with, “If you can’t do it, of course, that’s rough. I get it.”

‘You say no epidural, I say epidural’

In a later scene, the couple discusses their birth plan.

“I feel like we need to be more on the same page,” Mitchell says. “You say no epidural, I say epidural.”

“Am I partial to no epidural, yes,” Babel replies. “Why? Because I’m a hypochondriac. I’m afraid of drugs. My mom didn’t use an epidural…I meet women all the time who didn’t choose to use an epidural.”

Mitchell compares it to getting a root canal without medication, but Babel shoots down the analogy.

“As a woman your body is genetically engineered to give birth,” he doubles down.

It backfires.

“Well, listen, next time you can do this,” Mitchell says, then pulls out the pregnancy suit.

Mitchell is documenting the couple’s pregnancy journey in her YouTube series.
