Kim Kardashian models her new SKIMS shapewear while reciting words of affirmation in a mirror for new ad
It was the shapewear line that sparked global controversy when it debuted under it’s original name, Kimono.
A few weeks and a name change later, Kim Kardashian is preparing to release her line of shapewear, now called SKIMS Solutionwear.
The 38-year-old shared a video taping a promotional ad for her line to Instagram on Tuesday afternoon.

Skims is set to launch on Sept. 10; after originally launching under Kimono, the line came under fire for cultural appropriation of the traditional Japanese garment.
Kim told WSJ Magazine that the reaction was something she didn’t expect, and that her intentions were ‘innocent.’
‘You would think we would have obviously thought it through a little bit deeper,’ she told the outlet.
‘I’m the first person to say, “Okay, of course, I can’t believe we didn’t think of this.” I obviously had really innocent intentions. But let’s listen. And I want to really listen. And I want to really take it all in.’

As a response to the outcry, she issued a statement to the New York Times asserting her ‘deep respect for the significance of the kimono in Japanese culture.’
Inclusive for all: The brand recently announced that Alice Marie Johnson, who Kim helped free from jail a year ago, is a model for the new shapewear
‘My solutionwear brand is built with inclusivity and diversity at its core and I’m incredibly proud of what’s to come,’ she said.
And despite the recoil, the mom-of-three insisted that listening to her fans and followers is a huge part of her protocol when it comes to product management.
‘My fans and followers are a huge inspiration to me – I’m always listening to their feedback and opinions, and am so grateful they shared their ideas for a new brand name,’ she said in a recent Instagram post announcing the name change.
