Kate ditches stripes for a polo shirt and shorts at sailing regatta

In her sailor whites! Kate Middleton swaps a £135 nautical striped top and £150 navy trousers for a practical anorak and £60 trainers as she skippers her crew in a charity regatta

The Duchess of Cambridge put on a sartorially apt display in three ensembles as she prepared to go head-to-head against husband Prince William in a major sailing regatta in the Isle of Wight today.

Kicking off the morning, Kate, 37, opted for a striped top and casual navy trousers as she arrived, accessorising with dainty heart earrings by Kiki McDonough and a casual pair of white trainers by the brand, Superga. 

The-mother-of-three’s nautical look consisted of a pair of £150 L.K.Bennett Blue Parker Trousers and a £135 colourful frilled top by Sandro. 

Later in the morning Kate changed into a white polo shirt and navy shorts, matching William, 36, who wore the same uniform ensemble.

For her final outfit, Kate opted for an anorak and a cap, along with £60 New Balance trainers as she boarded the boat.

Kate and William were  seen posing alongside the King’s Cup charity ambassadors, Fara Williams, Dan Snow, Bear Grylls, John Bishop, Katie Thistleton, and Helen Glover before boarding their boats.

Members of the public are invited to watch the racing from grandstands on the shore and enjoy family-friendly activities along the seafront.

The royals are hosting the inaugural regatta The King’s Cup to raise awareness and funds for eight of Their Royal Highnesses’ patronages.

The event sees the Duke and Duchess go head to head as skippers of individual sailing boats, in an eight boat regatta.

For her final look Kate wore a Nike Jacket, Sebago Bala boat shoes and J Brand jeans as she steered a dragon boat before a race against her husband across the Dalvay lake

The winning team will be awarded The King’s Cup, a historic trophy first presented by King George V at Cowes’ Royal Yacht Squadron in 1920.

The eight boats taking part in the prestigious event each represent one of the charities that are being supported this year by Their Royal Highnesses.

These include Child Bereavement UK, Centrepoint, London’s Air Ambulance Charity 30th Anniversary Campaign, and Tusk – four causes of which The Duke is Patron.

The Duchess will support four of her patronages: Action on Addiction, Place2Be, the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, and The Royal Foundation in connection with Her Royal Highness’s longstanding work on Early Years.

England Women’s footballer Fara Williams will represent Centrepoint, while television presenter Dan Snow will race for London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s 30th anniversary campaign.

Grylls will skipper a yacht for wildlife conservation organisation Tusk.

Bishop will compete for Action on Addiction, BBC presenter Katie Thistleton for Place2Be, and Glover for the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families.

Wearing her hair in a ponytail, she shielded her face with a cap and kept her designer earrings on for the ride
