Ever since Lance Bass got outbid for the old “Brady Bunch” home, fans have been clamoring to know what will happen to the house.
HGTV announced Thursday it had purchased the home. In addition to the news, “Brady Bunch” stars Susan Olsen, Maureen McCormick and Eve Plumb spoke about their upcoming show, “A Very Brady Renovation.”
“This is the first time the magic is back,” Olsen said, according to The Associated Press.
While fans couldn’t be happier to see the gang back together, the show’s male stars, Barry Williams and Christopher Knight, joked that the network paid too much for the home.
The AP says the bidding war drove the sale price to more than $1.6 million over the asking.
It was last summer that Bass revealed he had bid on the house and thought he had a deal.
“Super excited to announce they accepted my offer on the #BradyBunch house last night!!! This is going to be a fun project!” he tweeted.
But he was mistaken. He said he was told a “Corporate Buyer (Hollywood studio)” wanted to buy the house “at any cost.” He did not name the studio (which we now know), but explained in the post that the agent discouraged him to go higher with his bid because the new buyer would “outperform any bid with unlimited resources.”
“A Very Brady Renovation” will feature not only the actors but Jonathan and Drew Scott of “Property Brothers” fame. Bass has also teased his own involvement as well after losing out on buying it.
The cast knows that not everyone is there physically, but that in spirit it’s just like they are back in the early 1970’s.
“We can feel the presence of Robert Reed and Florence Henderson and Ann B. Davis in these rooms that are being created, through the memories and the shows,” said Williams.
The show is set to debut on Sept. 9.
In the meantime, HGTV is wasting no time promoting the show.
“Are YOU the biggest Brady Bunch fan in America!? Prove it! Submit a video by Sept. 11 telling us why you should win a 6-night stay at the Brady Bunch house. Get the details at the link in our bio,” the network posted Friday.
