WARNING: This section contains spoilers for Poldark season 4
Poldark season five will feature eight episodes in the final series.
Episode one will follow the Poldarks as they hope to begin their life together in peace.
However, it is not long before Ross’ old Army Colonel Ned Despard (played by Vincent Regan) asks him back to the capital to help him.
Meanwhile Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) will be managing their affairs from Cornwall.
WILL THE FINAL SERIES BE THE SAME AS THE BOOKS?
The episode will also see all of the characters reeling from Elizabeth’s (Heida Reed) death in season four.
The series will also deal with the story of the Poldark novels by Winston Graham, which have now reached book eight.
Entitled The Stranger from the Sea, the novel has a time jump of 11 years from the previous book.
To deal with this in season five, writer Debbie Horsfield confirmed that the show will cover what happens in those 11 years of the book.
The producers haven’t yet confirmed how this will be dealt with in the hit BBC series.
Speaking ahead of the final season, actor Aidan Turner said: “There is a lot going on this series; there is an influx of exciting new characters, there’s a lot of tension.
“There is a great pace to the show this year that feels different and overall it feels slightly more grown up.”
HOW WILL POLDARK END?
Eleanor Tomlinson also spoke to the BBC about what to expect from her character in this series.
She said: “As we go into this series, the Cornish people are struggling to survive, there are food shortages, lack of pay and mine closures and Demelza is often at the forefront trying to help people where she can.”
She also added about how sad she was for her time on the show to be coming to an end.
“It’s very sad it is coming to an end but we have taken these characters on the best journey they could have gone on so it seems right to take a break now,” she explained.
Poldark season five begins tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
