Spotify launches Lite app in 36 countries with poor internet and users with old phones, limited storage and low data plans

- Listeners can also control their song cache and clear it, if storage is an issue
Spotify has rolled out a lighter version of its Android app dubbed Spotify Lite which allows you to set a data limit and only takes up 10MB of storage.
The audio streaming company hopes to expand its reach to regions where internet connections are slow and people tend to use low-to-mid-range devices.
Those markets include developing regions across Asia, Latin America, Middle East and Africa, including Brazil, Mexico, Honduras, the Philippines and India.
Its also designed for people with smaller data plans and older devices as listeners can also clear their song cache, for those lacking in storage space.

Spotify, founded in Sweden in 2006, has been testing the lighter 10MB version since mid-2018. The main Spotify app can require 100MB.
It is officially available today through Google Play and will work on any device running Android version 4.3 and higher.
It offers the same experience as the usual Spotify app, but is optimised for slower connections and those with less data-intensive cell plans.
Spotify Lite also allows users to set a specific data limit and receive a notification once that limit is reached.
Lite apps are becoming more popular as tech companies look to expand to developing countries where data and wireless connections are fewer and much slower.
Other companies have also launched Lite versions of their apps, with Facebook developing Facebook Lite, Messenger Lite, and Instagram Lite.
Uber and Twitter have also launched Lite versions and YouTube unveiled a low-data mobile app designed for India.
Spotify Lite will still give users a way to search for artists and songs, save and share them and discover new music.
The app comes with ‘Favorites’ instead of libraries, so that’s where you will find all your saved songs and playlists.
Users will be able to enjoy tunes with either a free or a Premium account, and they can use it alongside the main app for times when mobile internet is spotty.
