ITV This Morning: ‘How dare you!’ Samantha Womack snaps at Phillip over EastEnders remark

Ronnie (played by Samantha Womack) and Roxy (Rita Simons) made a huge impact on Albert Square during their time as the fiery Mitchell sisters on EastEnders.

For one thing, both women had intense on-off relationships with Walford heartthrobs Sean Slater (Rob Kazinsky) and Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), with Sean was forced to revisit the loss of his ex-wife Roxy’s death when he returned earlier this year.

Appearing on today’s edition of This Morning on ITV, actress Samantha was chatting about her latest role in the London West End on intense thriller Girl on the Train when EastEnders was revisited.

Presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby noted the Mitchell sisters are still loved by the fans today, and Samantha nodded vigorously.

“Oh yeah they really are,” she said. “People try and figure out ways they could come back all the time.”

But Holly, 37, and Phillip, 56, weren’t convinced it’s possible as both hosts tried to get to the bottom of a popular fan theory.

“You can’t come back though can you?” Phillip sought to clarify.

“But you can’t right?” Holly echoed, prompting outcry from the actress.

“How dare you!” Samantha snapped with a mock-gasp, as she shook her head with a laugh.

She went on to insist that according to some viewers it is very possible for the sisters to make an explosive return.

How dare you!

“We’ve had some wacky suggestions,” the actress shared fondly looking back on the possibilities.

Recalling one of the best ones, the Ronnie actress said: “We’ve had one where Billy Mitchell [Perry Fenwick] works in the funeral directors’ home.

“And [fans have speculated he secretly used] this drug that can bring people back from the dead.”

Samantha also noted she still “speaks to Rita all the time”, and the former on-screen sisters remain great friends from their time working together on the soap.

What’s more, the actress shared some other anecdotes from her time on the iconic set.

Referencing how “freeing” she found acting drunk for her role as Rachel on Girl on the Train, Samantha conceded no one could do “drunk acting” as good as Phil Mitchell star Steve McFadden.

She revealed how the long-time soap star would be chatting about what he’d just had for “lunch” on set that day, and then in the next beat he’d be striding back on set with a drunk demeanour.

Samantha even recalled how her co-star would return with “glassy eyes,” praising his acting ability.

Recently on the soap, Phil and wife Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean) have had happy news she is pregnant, but sadly the baby may actually be Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) from her sordid affair.

With Phil becoming more and more involved, is it time for him to finally find out the truth?

EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
