The internet giant has partnered with cosmetics giant L’Oréal to launch a new feature in the Amazon app where users can test out different shades of lipsticks on live photos or videos of themselves.
The new ‘Live Mode’ feature should start appearing in Amazon’s app starting this week.

On select listings, users can try out different lipstick shades using their smartphone’s front-facing camera.
All they have to do is select ‘Try now’ and it will load up the feature, at which point they can try out different shades on their own face, or on a model with a similar skin tone.
L’Oreal hopes to soon open up the option for users to try on eyeshadows, then potentially foundation in the future, according to Allure.
Live Mode utilizes technology from ModiFace, an AI-powered augmented reality platform it acquired last March.
ModiFace helped Sephora and Estée Lauder create their AR beauty apps, meaning this kind of technology isn’t exactly new.
However, bringing the tools to Amazon should be a welcome addition for customers shopping for beauty products on the site.
As of today, Live Mode is available in the app for Android users in the US and Japan. It’s expected to roll out for iOS users later this year, as well as expand to other makeup products
‘We are excited to team up with ModiFace to make shopping for cosmetics online even easier by offering customers the ability to virtually try-on before they buy,’ Head of Amazon Beauty Nicolas Le Bourgeois told Venture Beat.
‘With this new AI-powered virtual experience, Amazon customers can now … purchase with greater confidence — wherever they are, whenever they want, with products delivered right to their doorstep.
‘This launch is another important milestone in our vision to be the best possible place for customers to discover and buy beauty products online,’ he added.

CAN AN AI PREDICT HOW YOU WILL AGE?
Olay has developed an AI app that could give you the secret to looking younger.
But be warned, the ‘Future You Simulation’ app is designed to terrify.
It shows users how they’ll age in the future, before giving some useful tips on how to maintain a youthful glow.
The app, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show, studies the user’s face and runs an algorithm that’s trained to recognize particular areas that are likely change as they get older.

First, users snap or upload a selfie of themselves to the app, enter their age and ethnicity, then it gets to work on analyzing their face.
Once it’s complete, the app gives users a ‘skin age’ – an approximation of how old it thinks your skin really is.
A sliding button on the bottom of the app lets users see how they’ll look when they’re 20 years younger or older.
Depending on the state of their skin, users might be shocked to see that in 20 years they’ll have developed blotchiness, dark spots, wrinkles and all sorts of unsightly changes.
