Jose Antonio Reyes' son set to join Real Madrid youth academy from Leganes

JOSE Antonio Reyes' eldest son is set to follow in his late father's footsteps by playing for Real Madrid.

Jose Reyes Lopez, the former Arsenal star’s only child with former partner Ana Lopez, will join the Los Blancos' youth set up next season.

The 11-year-old was part of a Leganes side that won a national tournament earlier this year, where he finished the competition as top scorer.

The youngster's uplifting news is a small ray of positivity in what has otherwise been a truly tragic week after his father's untimely death.

Jose Jr. attended the former Arsenal icon's funeral in Seville on Monday where friends and family of the former Sevilla winger were able to pay their respects.

The 35-year-old footballer was killed as the Mercedes he was travelling in came off the road and burst into flames near to his hometown in Spain.

Only you and I know how much we loved each other

Within hours, Jose Jr. spoke out about his grief at the terrible loss of his young dad by posting a loving remembrance along with a picture of the two were together.

Writing in Spanish, his son said: "This is the last moment we have spent together dad.

"That day you gave me advice as you always do, but today you've gone to not come back and it's a very hard day for me!

"I was and I will always be very proud of you dad.

"We did not spend all the time we wanted together but only you and I know how much we loved each other!

"I love you Papa!"

The ex-Gunners star was part of Arsenal's Invincibles side that went through the 2003-04 season unbeaten and won the Premier League.

Reyes was killed when his Mercedes Brabus S550V went off the A-376 motorway near the town of Alcala de Guadaira on Saturday.

He was driving home to his wife and kids following a training session at his current club Extremadura.
