The Bachelorette is usually a show that over explains things. Every big, dramatic event that happens is shown in at least 100 previews and then teased by Chris Harrison week after week before we ever even see what happened.
So when something fairly big happens and it’s just glossed over, it causes people to pause, which is exactly what happened with last week’s episode.
Tyler Gwozdz was sent home with barely any mention as to what happened.
The only explanation that fans got was a throwaway comment from Hannah Brown about how she was sad to see him go because she enjoyed her date with him.
Even the men were surprised by Gwozdz’s exit.
According to contestant Cam Ayala, Gwozdz basically just vanished.
“We were all by the pool, having a regular conversation, and next thing I know, Tyler’s gone,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
Ayala said that the producers just told the men that they couldn’t really talk about the situation but that it was in the best interest for both Brown and Gwozdz for Gwozdz to go home.
Why do fans think Gwozdz went home?
Since no one was given an explanation on what happened with Gwozdz, some fans took it upon themselves to do a little sleuthing.
During the Bachelor nation investigation, a Reddit thread was discovered where one user said that they went to school with Gwozdz and that he was extremely misogynistic. But that wasn’t the worst of it.
“The story that most caught my attention involves his treatment of an ex,” the user wrote. “Apparently, he dated a really sweet girl, but they would get in public screaming matches often. The relationship ended horrifically. While in Europe, he SPIT ON HER and left.”
Many fans took that as a possible reason that ABC went in and removed Gwozdz from the show.
What did Gwozdz have to say to these allegations?
In the world of the internet, not responding to allegations could be fuel to the rumor fire. So, in an email to Refinery29, Gwozdz spoke up to clear his name.
“Addressing totally unsubstantiated rumors posted to Reddit from an anonymous account seems imprudent,” he wrote. “I feel that even addressing them gives them some sort attention and fuel but I continue to have faith in my journey and in a purpose for everything that’s happened to me in my life. Above everything else I am a son to my mother. She raised me to be better than these sort of baseless accusations. The rumors are so far out of the realm of my personality and values that it seems silly to waste time denying, but I suppose I will for the record. BUT I will be alright.”
He went on to say that he chose to leave the show.
“This was a decision that I came to with producers, and something that I’ve come to realize what is the best decision that could’ve been made,” he continued.
He claimed that his exit wasn’t shown on television in order to respect his privacy.
