Anthony Kay’s Mets hype grows with spectacular outing

Anthony Kay is on the Mets’ radar, according to manager Mickey Callaway, but the left-hander wasn’t given serious consideration for a promotion to start against the Nationals on Monday.

The 24-year-old up-and-comer then sent a strong message, throwing seven no-hit innings before being lifted in Double-A Binghamton’s game Monday night. Kay struck out seven and walked one on 88 pitches.

“We’ve talked a lot about Anthony,” Callaway said ahead of Kay’s spectacular outing. “We do feel that he still needs further development. We love what we’ve seen so far. He’s been outstanding with fastball life to it and his ability to field his position and control the running game. There’s still some things we would like to see before we give us a chance, but he is on the radar.”

Kay entered the night with a  4-2 mark, 1.24 ERA and 0.870 WHIP over eight starts with the Rumble Ponies.
