THE Jeremy Kyle Show hasn't been on television in a week and it's starting to sink in that the popular ITV chat show won't be coming back.
Following the death of a guest on his show, Jeremy was later informed that the TV programme had been scrapped – but what will he do now, what did his statement say and is the show really gone for good?
What has Jeremy Kyle said about his show being cancelled? And what will he do now?
Although Jeremy hasn't said anything outright about the axing of his show, his pals have let slip the presenter's concerns.
On May 14, The Sun exclusively revealed that Jeremy feared ITV bosses were looking for an excuse to axe his show for good.
The presenter reportedly told friends he thinks he may be being made a scapegoat after the death of a guest who died days after failing a cheat lie detector.
His concerns emerged as the axe man who binned Big Brother was tasked to launch an investigation.
But a source said: “Jeremy and those on the show are worried that this could be the nail in the coffin.
“There’s been a groundswell of criticism since the news broke of Steve’s death, and there’s a feeling from people who work on the show that top bosses might decide to use the incident as a reason to change things around.”
Sources say new ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall, 57, has never been a fan of the abrasive show — which she believes clashes with the rest of the network’s daytime schedule.
And she has put Julian Bellamy — the managing director of ITV Studios — at the helm of the review of the tragedy.
But Jeremy's nearest believe bosses may use the sad events as an excuse to remove the show entirely.
The source added: “Senior figures at ITV think the schedule should be more wholesome and that this jars with it a bit. The CEO has told people she wants ITV to be upbeat and positive.”
Since the future of the show still remains in the balance, there is no indication of what Jeremy will do next as he waits to see what will happen to his show of fourteen years.
What has ITV said about suspending The Jeremy Kyle Show?
ITV said they were fully cooperating with police to commence an investigation while also reviewing footage of the episode to “conduct a review of the show”.
A representative noted: “Given the seriousness of this event, ITV has also decided to suspend both filming and broadcasting of The Jeremy Kyle Show with immediate effect”.
A source familiar with the situation told The Sun that the entire team at The Jeremy Kyle Show is cooperating and fully supportive of ITV’s decision to perform a full investigation by placing the show on hiatus for the time being.
A source shared: “It’s everyone’s worst nightmare, and something that is taken extremely seriously by all involved. Jeremy and the team are extremely proud of the show and the aftercare which guests receive, and in 14 years on air there has never been an incident like this”.
Former EastEnders star Daniella Westbrook had made it known to fans that her appearance on the chat show was expected to air on May 14, 2019 but due to unforeseen circumstances, it's now unclear when the episode will air.
The Jeremy Kyle Show is one of the longest-running chat shows on ITV, first premiering on the network back in 2005.
Why was the show cancelled?
On May 15, 2019 The Sun exclusively revealed that the show had been permanently axed by ITV after Steven Dymond died from an overdose.
Carolyn McCall, ITV’s CEO, announced: “Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show.
“The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end.
“Everyone at ITV's thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond."
On Monday ITV announced that the May 13, 2019, episode had been cancelled following the death of a guest who passed away shortly after filming.
The network stressed that the episode would not be aired and was since replaced with a rerun of Dickinson’s Real Deal instead.
A spokesperson for the channel revealed: "Everyone at ITV and The Jeremy Kyle Show is shocked and saddened at the news of the death of a participant in the show a week after the recording of the episode they featured in and our thoughts are with their family and friends”.
The statement concluded with the words: "ITV will not screen the episode in which they featured.”
As well as the show being suspended from air indefinitely, all previous episodes have also been deleted from the on-demand service, ITV Hub.
How long did his show run for?
The 53-year-old had fronted the ITV daytime show since 2005.
But on May 15 2019 it was announced that the show had been permanently axed by ITV after the guest died from an overdose.
This followed the show being pulled off air on May 13, 2019 and suspended indefinitely after Steven Dymond died shortly after filming.
A spokeswoman said: "Everyone at ITV and The Jeremy Kyle Show is shocked and saddened at the news of the death of a participant in the show a week after the recording of the episode they featured in and our thoughts are with their family and friends.
“ITV will not screen the episode in which they featured.
“Given the seriousness of this event, ITV has also decided to suspend both filming and broadcasting of The Jeremy Kyle Show with immediate effect in order to give it time to conduct a review of this episode of the show.”
In 2011, the TV host even ran two seasons of his show in the US.
Jeremy also presented Good Morning Britain in August 2018 to cover Piers Morgan while he was away.

Jeremy has been married twice. His first wife was Kirsty Rowley, the pair were married between 1989 and 1990.
His most recent wife was Carla Germaine, the pair married in 2003 but split in 2015 – with cheating allegations against Carla hitting the headlines soon after.
Three months before the split, Jeremy let slip that he and Carla rarely slept together anymore.
He told a guest: “I haven’t had sex for ages myself.”
Then the Sun on Sunday revealed that there were allegations of Carla romping with England polo player James Carr, 25, while Jeremy was away filming in the US.
It was claimed that James and Carla became friendly after she went to him for polo lessons.
They had flirty chats and swapped numbers after a night out in a bar.
But when Jeremy and Carla were granted a “quickie divorce” in February 2016 — the court hearing lasted 20 seconds — she cited his “unreasonable behaviour” as the reason for the breakdown of their marriage.
