Pointless host Alexander Armstrong left SPEECHLESS by contestant’s winning answer

Today’s edition of Pointless saw Alexander Armstrong joined by Natalie and Charlotte in the final round of the quiz show.

The pair were hoping for Game of Thrones to be a category in the final round but unfortunately it didn’t pop up.

Instead they settled for academies and societies as their category and appeared to struggle to come up with answers.

Fortunately, after two incorrect answers, the pair found a Pointless answer which left host Alexander speechless.

Looking to see what the score for their final answer would be, Alexander remarked: “Now this answer just sort of came out of nowhere and you suddenly said Humphry Davy and you were convinced he would be a President of the Royal Society past or present.

“Humphry Davy, for £3,250 is Humphry Davy a Pointless answer?“

As the marker on the board began to descend there was an audible gasp in the studio.

“Humphry Davy is right,” Alexander exclaimed. “Your first answer Quentin Blake was incorrect, your second answer Christopher Lee was incorrect.

“Now your answer Humphry Davy is correct and goes all the down to Pointless!”

Contestants Natalie and Charlotte were ecstatic and rushed to hug one another as they celebrated their win with Alexander walking over to congratulate the pair.

“I mean, wow,” he began. “Well done you two.

“I mean to say, I have witnessed a few things on Pointless in my time, we have had the occasional name plucked out of thin air during normal game play that has turned out to be a low score.

“But really Humphry Davy as a Pointless answer. Natalie and Charlotte, you are taking home the jackpot.”

Reflecting on their answer, Richard Osman revealed they had also named another Pointless answer during the 60 seconds they had to chat.

However the pair had chosen to omit Anthony Gormley from their final three choices.

Yesterday on the show, Richard was shocked when contestant Tony snubbed him in favour of Alexander.

Tony asked Alexander if he would say hello to his aunt Julie, who would be watching the show at home.

The presenter was more than happy to oblige but Richard wasn’t too happy about the situation.

Richard announced: “Not such a big fan of mine, auntie Julie? Interesting, interesting. Quite what I’ve done I don’t know – but that’s absolutely fine.”

Pointless airs weekdays on BBC One at 5.15pm.
