A pleasant surprise! Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry’s newborn son met his first royal family member by accident.
“We just bumped into the duke [Prince Philip] as we were walking by, which was so nice,” the Duchess of Sussex, 37, told members of the press at her son’s Wednesday, May 8, debut inside Windsor Castle. “So it will be nice to introduce the baby to the family.”
Her husband, 34, added: “Another great-grandchild.”
The Duke of Edinburgh, 97, and Queen Elizabeth II, who will also meet Baby Sussex on Wednesday, already have three great-grandchildren. Prince William and Duchess Kate share Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 12 months.
Meghan and Harry’s royal baby arrived on Monday, May 6. The couple confirmed the exciting news with an Instagram announcement.
“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019,” their social media statement read. “Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.”
Harry raved about the Suits alum and their baby boy that same day, telling members of the press outside of Windsor Castle, “I am so incredibly proud of my wife and as every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to die for, so I’m just over the moon.”
On Wednesday, Meghan called her son a “dream” and gushed that he has the “sweetest temperament.”
While the Duke, 36, and Duchess of Cambridge, 37, have yet to meet their new nephew or introduce him to his three cousins, the pair revealed on Tuesday, May 7, that they are “thrilled” for the new parents.
“I’m very pleased and glad to welcome my brother to the sleep deprivation society that is parenting,” William told members of the press. “I wish him all the best and hope the next few days they can settle down and enjoy having a newborn in their family and all the joys that come with that.”
