The Battle of Winterfell is over. (Thanks, Arya.) Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 3 is in the books, and you can read our review for our thoughts. While it was the longest episode ever, and the biggest battle the show has seen, there are still three more episodes to go before we know how the overall story will shake out.
Next up is Episode 4, which airs on May 5. Above, you can watch the short teaser trailer HBO released after the airing of Episode 3. It confirms that Jon’s direwolf, Ghost, is okay, despite not seeing him return after he charged ahead alongside the Dothraki. But it also teases what’s next, as Dany declares that they’ve won “the great war” but now have to win “the last war”–against Cersei and the Golden Company. It’s a short video, but it looks like this will set the stage for that final battle sometime in the last two episodes.
For more, be sure to check out Episode 3 Easter eggs and references, as well as our new theories and explainer of what happened with Jon’s dragon, Rhaegal. Like Ghost, his fate is revealed in the teaser above, which feels like a somewhat anti-climatic way to accomplish that goal. But if you’re a big fan of Jon And His Animal Friends, you’ll probably be relieved to not have to wait a week for that confirmation.
There are a number of characters who did die, as you might have expected going into this episode. However, those deaths left us feeling cold.
