Nadler repeats call for Mueller to testify before House panel

Moments after Attorney General William Barr completed his news conference on the special counsel’s report, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, called on Robert Mueller to testify “as soon as possible” about his conclusions.

“It is clear Congress and the American people must hear from Special Counsel Robert Mueller in person to better understand his findings. We are now requesting Mueller to appear before @HouseJudiciary as soon as possible,” Nadler posted on Twitter, linking to the letter he sent.

“I request your testimony before the Judiciary Committee as soon as possible – but, in any event, no later than May 23, 2019,” the New York Democrat wrote.

During the news conference, Barr said he would have no problem with Mueller testifying before Congress.

Barr said Mueller’s report found that neither Trump nor any of his campaign associates conspired with Russia during the 2016 election.

He also said the Justice Department concluded that evidence developed by Mueller’s prosecutors “is not sufficient to establish that the president committed an obstruction of justice offense.”

Barr is expected to release a redacted version of Mueller’s report to Congress and the public later Thursday morning.
