First held in 1829, it has been an annual event since way back in 1856 and attracts 250,000 people to watch from the banks of the Thames each year.

EACH team consists of eight rowers and a cox who will race over a 4.2-mile stretch of the Thames.

As of 2018, Cambridge have won the race 83 times and Oxford 80 times, with one dead heat.

And the rules dictate that every competitor must be a student at their respective University – with neither offering sport scholarships without the student being up to the necessary academic standards.

This year James Cracknell, who is studying at Cambridge University, is set to become the oldest man ever to compete in the race.

The 46-year-old won gold at the Olympics in 2000 and 2004 and is reading human evolution at Peterhouse College.
